Traffic agent slugged

- Adam Shrier and John Annese

A BRUTE SNUCK up behind an NYPD traffic agent on Staten Island and knocked him out with a punch to the throat, cops said Thursday.

Surveillance video released by cops shows Divon Cochrane, 27, creeping up behind the 50-year-old victim, who was working in the intersection of Heberton St. and Post Ave. in Elm Park, around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Cochrane jogged into the crosswalk to catch up with the traffic agent, then reached back and delivered a devastating left hook to his throat. The sucker punch dropped the victim — who momentarily lost consciousness — to the ground, cops said.

Cochrane surrendered to police Thursday after seeing media coverage of the attack, police said. Cochrane, who has a lengthy criminal history, faces assault and harassment charges, cops said.
