City divided on mayor vs. Andy

- Kenneth Lovett

ALBANY — New York City residents prefer Mayor de Blasio’s plan to raise money for mass transit over Gov. Cuomo’s — but they much prefer the governor to the mayor in a head-to-head matchup.

A new Quinnipiac poll released Friday showed that New York City registered voters by a 64% to 21% margin prefer a millionaire’s tax rather than a form of congestion pricing to raise money for mass transit.

De Blasio has called for the tax hike, something Cuomo has shot down. Cuomo has pushed the idea of some form of congestion pricing to help reduce traffic and raise money for mass transit.

But the poll found that Cuomo would trounce de Blasio in a 2018 gubernatorial Democratic primary by a 60% to 31% margin.
