Bust made in lizard larceny

- Ross Keith

A LONG ISLAND woman was busted Friday for snatching four exotic lizards from a pet store — with the help of her children, police said.

Anisa Escobar used a knife to slice open the top of a reptile enclosure at Selmer’s Pet Land on East Jericho Tpke. in Huntington Station, around 1 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to Suffolk County cops.

The 46-year-old Mount Sinai woman was with her 14-year-old twins when she swiped four bearded dragons, including two very rare yellow lizards, police said.

One of Escobar’s kids acted as a lookout and the other shoved the reptiles in a bag, store owner Jessica Selmer said.

As detectives search for the reptiles, Selmer, 40, fears the pets are dead.

“They require specific care,” Selmer said. “Lighting units, a specialized tank, specialized food.”

The lizards are worth $2,010, according to Selmer.

Escobar is charged with grand larceny and child endangerment, cops said.
