Ma said son killed hubby, cop testifies

A MANHATTAN woman who returned home to discover the body of her hedge fund honcho husband suspected instantly that her son was the killer, a detective testified Friday.

Shelley Gilbert divulged her hunch to an emergency dispatcher in January 2015 after she found her husband Thomas Gilbert Sr. lying on the floor of their Beekman Place apartment with a bullet wound to the head and a gun on his chest.

“She told the 911 operator that her son shot her husband,” Detective Joseph Cirigliano testified at a pretrial hearing for Thomas Gilbert Jr., 32.

The hearing at Manhattan Supreme Court was called to determine whether cops had probable cause to arrest Gilbert Jr. (top photo) after the shooting.

Thomas Jr.’s lawyer Alex Spiro has argued that cops rushed to judgment in declaring the death a homicide.

Shelley Gilbert had a bad feeling when her troubled son showed up at the family home to talk “business” with his 70-year-old dad (middle photo) after a monthslong absence, Cirigliano said.

She agreed to her son’s request to go out and grab him a sandwich, only to return home to a murder scene that police say the son staged to appear as a suicide. A TWO-TIME felon was convicted Friday of home invasion rape in Brooklyn.

Willie Weathers (photo) attacked the 68-year-old victim inside her home after her husband left for church on July 27, 2004.

Prosecutors said Weathers, 47, knocked on the woman’s front door and asked to use the phone. When she refused, he pushed his way inside, broke the door off the hinges, choked and raped her. The woman’s husband returned home 30 minutes later and found his wife.

Weathers’ DNA was taken and entered into the nationwide database after a July 2013 arrest. That’s how cops connected him to the 2004 rape.
