‘Ham’ it all, Don made me angry
PLAYWRIGHT Lin-Manuel Miranda insists his declaration that Trump is going “straight to hell” wasn’t an impulsive decision — but rather the only way he could describe what he was feeling.
The “Hamilton” creator’s tweet about the President’s eternal fate was in response to Trump’s criticism of Puerto Rican officials in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
“It’s unprecedented language from me,” Miranda said of his tweet in an interview on the “Today” show Friday. “But it’s unprecedented to have the President of the United States attack the victims of a natural disaster.
“That was not impulsive,” he continued. “Those were the only words I had left, and I’m a guy who puts words together for a living.”
Miranda, 37, fired off the fuming tweet last Saturday after Trump wrote a series of posts regarding Puerto Rico. Hurricane Maria destroyed much of the island, left it without power and forced citizens to search for food, water and supplies.
The Tony-winning Miranda, who has deep familial roots to Puerto Rico, released a new song, “Almost Like Praying,” on Friday to benefit the victims of the hurricane. The song is already No. 1 on iTunes.
