KP exits with sore hip

- BY STEFAN BONDY

ANOTHER day for the Knicks, another small injury.

Kristaps Porzingis was removed from Sunday’s 117-83 loss to the Nets because of a sore hip. The Latvian said he felt the pain during the game, and it ratcheted up at halftime — prompting Porzingis to consult the trainer.

He did not play at all in the second half, finishing with six points in 16 minutes. The 22-year-old, who missed the previous game in Washington to rest, said he’ll get tested by a doctor early Monday morning.

The Knicks host the Rockets on Monday night. Porzingis doesn’t think the hip was the result of contact, but rather a consequence of poor posture.

“I believe there is tightness somewhere else, that’s why (my hip) got a little sore,” said Porzingis, who missed a practice last week because of a sore knee.

In addition to Porzingis sitting out the second half, Frank Ntilikina missed Sunday’s game with a sore knee. The rookie hasn’t played or practiced since suffering the injury in the preseason opener.

MELO, OKC ESCAPE AUSSIES: The Oklahoma City Thunder needed a big defensive stand to hold off Melbourne United.

Josh Huestis had two massive blocked shots in the final seconds to help the starstudded Thunder escape with an 86-85 exhibition victory Sunday.

Huestis blocked Josh Boone’s shot out of bounds, then blocked Casey Prather’s shot to clinch the win.

Melbourne coach Dean Vickerman said he was proud of the way his team played against the All-Star trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony. Melbourne withstood a run by the Thunder with their stars in the game in the third quarter and made it competitive down the stretch. — With AP
