Kids left alone in SUV

- BY THOMAS TRACY

A WESTCHESTER County couple left their two young sons alone in a parked SUV in Midtown Tuesday, police said.

A witness flagged down an NYPD patrol car on Seventh Ave. near W. 34th St. about 12:30 a.m. and said the children, ages 2 and 6, were sitting alone in the backseat of a Mercedes for nearly an hour.

An NYPD Emergency Service Unit team was called in to pop the car’s lock.

Meanwhile, the kids’ 28-year-old mother, Chrline Hernandez, and 37-year-old Reggie Cooley, who is the father of the younger boy, returned to the vehicle.

The couple, who live in Yonkers, admitted to leaving the tots so they could work a cleaning job at a nearby commercial building, police sources said.

Hernandez and Cooley are charged with acting in a manner injuries to a child.

The children, who appeared to be in good health, were taken to Bellevue Hospital for observation.

The city’s Administration for Children’s Services is investigating the incident, cops said.

“The safety of children is our priority, and it is not in the best interest and safety of the children to leave them in a car unattended,” an ACS spokesman said in.

He declined further comment, citing confidentiality laws.
