Rested Yank pen ready

CLEVELAND — Joe Girardi doesn’t know how he will utilize his bullpen in Game 5, but top relief weapons Aroldis Chapman, David Robertson and Chad Green are all wellrested and ready to go.

And that’s certainly an advantage for the Yankees heading into their do-or-die matchup with the Indians — especially given that Girardi likes to keep 37-year-old veteran CC Sabathia around five-to-six innings and 80-90 pitches.

“It’s determined by the game and how it’s going and what you’re going to do and what’s available and how much distance you get from your starter and the score and matchups,” Girardi said. “I don’t think you can really say, well, this is how we’re going to do it. Because the game determines how you’re going to do it.”

Exactly a week earlier, the manager had to get 26 outs from his bullpen in the AL wild-card game. Robertson, 32, established new single-game careerhighs in innings pitched (3.1) and pitches thrown (52), while Green threw two innings and 41 pitches — six shy of his season-high in a high-leverage middle relief role.

And you had to wonder if those arduous outings affected both guys in Game 2, when Green gave up a grand slam to Francisco Lindor in the sixth and Robertson gave up the game-tying solo homer to Jay Bruce in the eighth — the first run he’d allowed since Aug. 24.

Poor execution of pitches was also part of the problem, with Green hanging a backdoor breaking ball — by far his second-best pitch — and Robertson throwing a very hittable 3-1 fastball.

But Green hasn’t had to pitch since then, while D-Rob hasn’t pitched since Game 3, when he was shaky to start the eighth, retiring one of the two hitters he faced before
