TRUMP’S ‘IQ TEST’ FAIL:
Prez vs. Rex battle of brains is a ‘joke’
A STATE Department spokeswoman insisted Secretary of State Tillerson has a “high” IQ after President Trump questioned his smarts.
Trump made the quip ahead of a meeting with Tillerson, who reportedly referred to the President as a “moron” earlier this year,
“I think it’s fake news,” Trump said during an interview with Forbes, “but if he did that, I guess we’ll have to compare IQ tests. And I can tell you who is going to win.”
Mensa, the high IQ society, thought the President’s suggestion was a genius idea.
The group, which describes itself as “an international society whose only qualification for membership is a score in the top 2% of the general population on a standardized test,” said it “would be happy to hold a testing session for President Trump and Secretary Tillerson,” The Hill reported.
When asked what the secretary’s IQ was, a State Department spokeswoman simply replied: “It’s high.”
In her daily press briefing, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the President did not actually feel Tillerson was lacking in intelligence.
“He made a joke. Nothing more than that,” she said.
Trump’s tense relationship with Tillerson exploded into public view in the wake of an NBC News story last week that claimed the former Exxon executive insulted the President in a conversation with Vice President Pence and considered resigning earlier this summer.
In a press conference following the report, Tillerson directly denied he had any intention of resigning, but brushed off questions regarding the alleged “moron” comment.
“I’m not going to deal with petty stuff like that,” he said.
“This is what I don’t understand about Washington. Again, I’m not from this place. But places I come from, we don’t deal with that kind of petty nonsense. And it is intended to do nothing but divide people.”
A State Department representative denied Tillerson had ever insulted the President.
Trump over the weekend responded positively when asked about his relationship with the secretary of state.
“We have a very good relationship,” he said Saturday.
In the Forbes interview, Trump pushed back on claims that he’s cut down Tillerson’s efforts with his contradictory comments and tweets.
“I’m not undermining,” he said. “I think I’m actually strengthening authority.”
