Our votes, thrown into the trash

G

lendale: Why do we the people even have to vote? The elections are not decided by their votes. The Electoral College has all the say-so. The people mostly voted for Hillary Clinton; she beat Donald Trump by almost 3 million votes. So why should we bother voting at all? All the Trump campaign needed was these electoral votes with a little help from the Russians. There should have been a do-over when U.S. intelligence proved Russian interference. And I guess it was all a coincidence that both Trump’s son-and-law and son were speaking to the Russians.

Wake up, people. We really have no say. Money talks; people walk. This is not “The Apprentice.” The United States used to be made up of people from all nationalities, coming here from all over the world. This used to be a free country. When did we start listening to Communists? As far as I’m concerned, Hillary Clinton has class. But who am I to say? I’m just a voter who was born and raised here. God bless Hillary Clinton and God bless this country.

The biggest

Linden, N.J.: The World Almanac states that the Holocaust killed an estimated 6 million people. North Korea’s population is over 24 million. Our s.o.b. President is fully prepared to out-kill Hitler.

Ron Jackowski

Trial on trial

Howard Beach: Now that an African-American juror has caused a mistrial by admitting, during deliberations, that she would not send a black man to jail (“Jury race shock,” Sept. 29). I wonder when the protests will begin. How long will it be before hordes of angry white people will begin to riot, block traffic and loot? How long before Rev. Al Sharpton speaks out on this blatant racism? I won’t hold my breath. Susan Church

Honor the flag

Portland, Ore.: Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it. This letter is to all the football players who have disrespected and dishonored the flag. Do you realize that men and women died for that flag and gave you the freedom to protest? You seem to have forgotten about them and their families. I will not watch any more games until the time when you people stop your protesting. How soon 9/11 is forgotten. We were all feeling so patriotic, flags flying all over and we felt the American spirit. I want to know what happened. The flag drapes the coffin of those who have died. Can you honestly not feel anything toward them?

Anna Marie Henderson

Locker room talk

Manhattan: One thing for sure: These NFL players are making millions of dollars a year. When they do stand up for the anthem, they disrespect the flag. They do this to defy President Trump but they disrespect the whole United States of America. They should be proud of this country that gives them the big money. If they were in the armed forces for three years they would have a different attitude. Just keep them in the locker room for the anthem, then bring them out later.

Gary Kazanjian

The kneelers’ message

Lindenhurst, L.I.: To the NFL: Your protest is not about race, inequality or solidarity. Tell the truth: You didn’t pull this when Obama was in and you wouldn’t be doing this if Mrs. Clinton was in. You just plain out and out hate Donald Trump. Harvey Beyer

Will from above

Bronx: In view of the Daily News report of a crazed man beating a tiny dog to death while it hangs by its neck from his hands, in front of his child, and every other devilish piece of mayhem that someone could imagine in his nightmares, including the deliberate murder of a NYPD policewoman: One or two readers might think it possible that 1) There is a God in heaven above, and 2) it may be that humans are inferior to God’s glory, and 3) God is irritated with our constant mistakes of judgment and wishes to put a speedy end to it (“Bronx perv kills dog as kid watches,” Sept. 29).

Walter Powers

Get a grip, guys

Manhattan: Harvey Weinstein sexually harasses women for many years, then hides and sends out a mouthpiece, who tries to commend him for getting help after the story broke. Pro football players protest and almost are portrayed as civil rights heroes. Cam Newton has a little laugh about a knowledgeable female reporter’s question and has to apologize, which he did on social media, but is still made out to be some sexist and loses endorsements. Just these three recent scenarios demonstrate how completely insane the media world really is. Show some real courage and check yourselves and your motivations from now on! Kevin Kent

Wronging rights

Chappaqua, N.Y.: It is disrespectful to kneel while the national anthem is being played but not disrespectful to grab women’s private parts or wish to do your daughter because she’s so hot. When did right become wrong and wrong become right just for a few of us? Reneé Pollard

See the light behind the flag

Briarwood: To protest something for a reason is one thing. But to take a knee using our national anthem and American flag to make a point is a disgrace and un-American. Maybe in the future the light will come on and they will see. Maybe.

William Nagrenol

Honor opportunity

Jamaica Estates: It ill behooves the coddled, multi-million-dollar athletes, with their palatial mansions and other perks, to defame America and their fellow Americans by kneeling when the national anthem is played. These black athletes are the beneficiaries of a benevolent country that has passed several civil rights acts that have made it possible for these minority men to enter, and profit from, mainstream American life. Stephen H. Klausner

McCain the messenger

Jamaica: In these last and evil days there is lots to talk about. First, no one, not even God, knows when Jesus shall return, so this pastor who says Oct. 15 is the beginning of the end, he’s wrong. All these storms and earthquakes are a sign but not the ned. Taking away our health care from people like me is unholy. God bless John McCain; God is using him in a mighty way. Being born 75 years ago with cerebral palsy, now I need more care, I need Medicaid.

Edna M. Crater

Americans in the rough

Levittown, L.I.: Everyone in America except Native Americans is an immigrant somewhere along the line. Our ancestors come from European countries, sponsored by their families. They worked, paid taxes and did not live off the government. Today they are illegal, live off welfare and do not become citizens of the country they desperately want to come into. You can keep your customs at home, but learn English and American customs. We are proud American citizens. Stop illegal immigrants from staying illegal and have them become citizens. Let them contribute to the country they chose to live in. Darlene Antonick

Nickeled and dimed

Long Island City: Wells Fargo stagecoaches were constantly being robbed, according to movie sagas about the Old West. More recently Wells Fargo itself became a robber. The bank created fraudulent bank accounts for millions of its customers. Too bad Wells Fargo didn’t close up shop at the end of the stagecoach era. We certainly don’t need this 21st century-style bank robbery. Between our banks’ disrespect for its customers and paltry interest on deposits, a new apt term would be “disinterest.”

William Lindauer

Eaten from the inside

Howard Beach: Having Scott Pruitt head the Environmental Protection Agency is like having the proverbial wolf guard the hen house. A coal stove and a rifle in every house: the Trump mantra.

Steven Schwartz

Chris Columbus’ day off

Huntington, L.I.: How many statue defacers and topplers asked their boss to open the office on Monday? Or did they enjoy the day off watching the parade?

Leonard Stevenson

Win or lose

NORMAN Y. LONO Bronx: I am so sick and tired of hearing from jealous Mets fans, always criticizing fans of the Yankees. Mets fans can never and will never be what the Yankees are, and that is winners. Mets are total losers. So, Mets fans, get over yourselves and continue to be the pathetic losers you always have been. Stop hating. Yankees have class. Mets have no class.
