Arena resigns, but Gulati stays for now

-

Bruce Arena quickly resigned as U.S. coach after the Americans’ failure to qualify for the World Cup. U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati is staying around, at least for now.

Arena quit Friday, three days after the ruinous 2-1 loss at 99thranked Trinidad and Tobago that ended the Americans’ streak of seven straight World Cup appearances.

“There’s no point in me being around,” Arena said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

In return, the Cavs will get the rights to two overseas players, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league still has to approve the transaction. The deal could be completed later Friday or Saturday morning. Parziale, a firefighter from Brockton, Massachusetts, had 10 birdies — eight during the morning 18 — over 30 holes.

Shad Khan discussed President Trump’s divisive rhetoric about the NFL on Thursday in an interview with Crain’s Chicago Business, using the phrase “great divider” to refer to the President.

Khan is just one of a several NFL owners who donated $1 million to the President’s inauguration, but he has since been critical of Trump after the President’s tweet storm calling for NFL players to stand during the national anthem.

“You have to give Trump credit, people are confused on the First Amendment versus patriotism, that if you exercise your First Amendment you’re not a patriot, which is crazy,” Khan said. “People are confused on it, (Trump) knew he could hit on it and take advantage. I think what we’re seeing is the great divider overcoming the great uniter.”
