Mows down man chasing bike bandit

-

A WRONG-WAY driver hellbent on recovering his pricey bicycle chased down a thief on a Hell’s Kitchen street Saturday, cops said.

James Mansfield, 47, was loading a high-end bike into a van on W. 50th St. near Eighth Ave. around 5 p.m. when the bandit snatched his two-wheeler and pedaled away, according to cops.

Mansfield burned rubber after the man — driving west on the eastbound street — before he slammed into the thief and an innocent pedestrian at Ninth Ave, authorities said.

The stunning collision with the bike Mansfield was trying to recover was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and obtained by WABC-TV News.

Mansfield can be seen rushing at the thief after the crash and trying to grab the man.

Medics brought the 31-yearold pedestrian to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Hospital, where he was treated for cuts to the head, police said.

Cops arrested Mansfield, who lives nearby, for reckless endangerment. The bike thief managed to slip away.
