Dad of car-fire deserter: He shuts me out
THE FATHER of a Brooklyn man caught on video leaving his doomed gal pal trapped inside the flaming remnants of a burning car doesn’t know what his son was thinking.
“I don’t know what happened yet, I need to see him, talk to him, find out what happened,” Mohammad Azam (photo inset) said of son Saeed Ahmad.
Ahmad was caught on camera hailing a cab early Friday after escaping the roaring flames that killed Harleen Grewal, 25.
The 23-year-old smashed the luxury Infiniti 35G into a concrete barrier on the Gowanus Expressway.
The manslaughter suspect’s father said his son rarely lets him know what’s going on in his life.
“He comes home late and leaves with friends,” Azam said. “I ask where he’s going, he doesn’t like me bothering him.”
Ahmad told police he was dating Grewal, but friends said he was just giving her a ride home.
Grewal’s boyfriend, Karan Singh Dhillon, told The News on Saturday she was a selfless soul.
“She would do anything for people,” he said. “She would give someone the clothes off her back. She would give someone food and go hungry.”
Ahmad, still hospitalized Sunday with burns, was awaiting arraignment on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, speeding and driving with a suspended license.
