Austria voters give rightist, 31, top job
AUSTRIA’S 31-year-old foreign minister declared victory for his party Sunday in a national election that set him up to become Europe’s youngest leader and puts the country on course for a rightward turn.
Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz (inset) claimed the win as final results showed his People’s Party had a comfortable lead with almost all ballots counted. Noting that his center-right party had triumphed over the rival Social Democrats only twice since the end of World War II, Kurz called it a “historic victory.”
The votes counted so far show that Austria will have a government with a harder line on migration and Muslims than one running the country now. ONE PERSON was missing and seven others were injured Sunday night — five critically — after an offshore oil rig exploded into a giant fireball near New Orleans, officials said.
The blast occurred in Lake Pontchartrain as maintenance workers were cleaning an oil-rig platform around 7:15 p.m. local time. Kenner, La., officials attributed the explosion to cleaning chemicals igniting.
East Jefferson Medical A MAN whose body was found floating in a Pennsylvania river appears to have been shot in the head and has been identified as an entrepreneur who appeared on “Shark Tank,”according to a report.
The body of Philip Reitnour, 58, was discovered in the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Thursday, WPVI-TV reported, citing the city’s Medical Examiner’s office.
Reitnour founded the “EmergenSee” app to give smart phone users a way to provide live-streams of their emergencies and locations to rescuers.
He pitched it on “Shark Tank” in October 2014, but none of the sharks bit.
Reitnour was $3 million in debt and being sued, according to court records. Investigators said it appeared Reitnour had suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead, according to the station. Hospital Emergency Director Mike Guillot said some of the workers suffered burns and “blast-type injuries.” Five people were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he said at a press briefing.
“Several people have been rescued from the active fire on the rig,” Jefferson Parish spokesman Antwan Harris said Sunday night.
The rig’s owner had yet to be determined.
