OK, it Sawx, but Blaz can’t pull for Yanks

MAYOR DE BLASIO just can’t bring himself to root for the Yankees.

The die-hard Red Sox fan told the Daily News Editorial Board Tuesday it’s “constitutionally impossible” to root for his team’s archrival — though he says they’ve earned his respect.

“The truth is called for in editorial board meetings,” de Blasio said. “I am a crazed, rabid baseball fan and Red Sox fan. It is constitutionally impossible to quote unquote root for the New York Yankees.”

Hizzoner said he won’t go to a World Series game if the Yankees make it that far because it would be “too weird,” but would happily fete their victory from his official perch.

“They’ll get the key (to the city), they’ll get the parade, they’ll get the confetti. I will bow before them,” he said.

The Yankees beat the Houston Astros Tuesday night in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series..

De Blasio, who grew up in Cambridge, Mass., has stayed true to his home team as mayor, and hasn’t been to a game at Yankee Stadium since taking office. He’s friendlier to the Mets, who got his enthusiastic backing when they reached the World Series, but this year’s playoff run in the Bronx has put him in a trickier spot.

“I’ve watched the Yankee team this year, and they were not supposed to be here. They have really played above their level in the best sense of the word. I’ve been really impressed by them. They’ve been dogged,” de Blasio said. “I have a lot of respect for them. It’s hard for a Red Sox fan to say it, but I honestly have a lot of respect for them.”

De Blasio traced his devotion for the Red Sox to the 1967 season, which he recently watched a documentary about that reminded him how he fell in love with the team. “That season took a bunch of New Englanders who had given up on baseball because the Red Sox just sucked, always, and turned people into crazed, rabid fans,” he said.

De Blasio does have a wager riding on the outcome of the ALCS, where he bet the mayor of Houston a dozen cannoli and case of Bronx Brewery beer.

He insisted the Yankees will get his propers if they go all the way.

“If they win, it will be my honor as mayor and as a true baseball fan — because if they win, they will have 100% earned it,” he said.

The reverence won’t extend to the mayor’s presence at a game.

“In good conscience,” he said, “it’s just too weird.”
