BULLS FIGHT EACH OTHER

Elliott ban on hold again, Cowboy RB can play

-

A federal judge opened a big hole for Ezekiel Elliott Tuesday granting a temporary restraining order blocking the NFL’s efforts to suspend the Dallas Cowboys running back for six games over domestic abuse allegations.

The ruling allows Elliott to suit up for Sunday’s Week 7 away game against the San Francisco 49ers, and the game the week after against Washington.

Elliott, whose case has more twists and turns than a busted play, won the latest round in his ongoing contest after a Judge Paul Crotty cited the immediate harm Elliott faced by being sidelined.

The restraining order is in place until Oct. 30.

The ruling buys time until the regular judge, Judge Katherine Failla, can hear the case. Crotty heard the case because Failla was on vacation.

The NFL Management Council decided to suspend Elliott on Aug. 11 in the wake of allegations he had abused his ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson.

The NFL Players Association appealed the decision on Aug. 15. But an arbitrator shot their appeal down on Sept. 5, ruling the League stuck to its disciplinary policy, according to court filings.

— Victoria Bekiempis and Leonard Greene Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa Bay, which had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-1-1. Chicago Bulls teammates Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis were involved in a physical altercation during practice Tuesday that left Mirotic hospitalized and out indefinitely as a result, the Bulls announced in a statement, per the Chicago Tribune.

Mirotic and Portis were involved in a shoving altercation that ended with Portis delivering “an alleged cheap shot” to Mirotic’s face, according to Yahoo Sports.

Mirotic suffered a concussion and facial fractures that will likely require surgery, the Bulls announced in the statement. The team also said in the statement they are “evaluating disciplinary action.”

Mirotic was expected to be the team’s starting power forward with Portis serving as his backup, along with rookie Lauri Markkanen. — Ari Gilberg
