Outlook is bullish for beast

BROOKLYN’S favorite bull has found freedom — and a name — in the Garden State.

The raging 550-pound, 10-month-old bull that made a wild break from a Sunset Park slaughterhouse arrived safely at Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Wantage, N.J., the group announced Wednesday.

The beast has been dubbed Shankar, a name Skylands said was chosen because it means “one who brings about happiness or prosperity.”

“He’s a maniac. He’s a wild man. He’s courageous,” said Michael Sura, who runs Skylands.

“The ones that escape are different. Some have the guts to escape and burst out down the street.”

Sura said Shankar had to be treated for a wound to one leg. The bull has been given vaccines, and will be held in quarantine for 15 to 30 days before joining the herd. He will be neutered.

“No one has stepped forward to claim him,” he said. “It made the rescue easier. There was no need to negotiate.”

On Wednesday night, protesters gathered in Kensington and held signs which read, “One saved, 50 billion more to go. Close down the slaughterhouses in New York city.”
