NYPD scrape over stickers touting pols

- Graham Rayman

THE NYPD has ordered cops across the city to remove any unauthorized stickers or posters on department vehicles and stationhouse walls, police sources said.

The message went out Wednesday after political stickers were found at precincts in the Bronx and Manhattan.

“We reemphasized department rules to all precincts, housing (police service areas) and transit units about the rules about posting bills, flyers and stickers,” a police official said.

In fact, the placing of unauthorized posters and bumper stickers — like a campaign sticker — has long been banned by the NYPD.

The only place such items are allowed under the rules is the union bulletin board in each command, an allowance required by law, the police official said.

Technically, when an unauthorized sticker is spotted the vehicle is supposed to be taken out of service until the sticker is removed.

City employees are barred from doing political or campaign work during work hours.
