Blame terror for U.K. crime: Don

- Christopher Brennan Graham Rayman

PRESIDENT TRUMP blamed an increase in crime on “radical Islamic terror” in the U.K., though the number of homicides actually went down.

“Just out report: ‘United Kingdom crime rises 13% annually amid spread of Radical Islamic terror.’ Not good, we must keep America safe!” he posted on Twitter Friday morning.

The tweet cited a report from Britain’s Office for National Statistics released Thursday, which said the number of police-recorded offenses increased 13% to 5.2 million in the year ending in June.

The report cited a jump in thefts, crimes involving knives and a 19% hike in sexual offenses. The number of homicides in the U.K. last year fell 2% to 664, despite 35 deaths attributed to attacks in London and Manchester. A GOP move is afoot to cap the pre-tax contributions to 401(k) retirement plans as low as $2,400, according to reports.

The effort being considered by Republicans in the House would allow the government to generate money that would offset proposed reductions in individual income taxes, MarketWatch reported. The move would likely anger the middle class which contributes heavily to those plans.

The New York Times, citing lobbyists, tax consultants and congressional Democrats, said the cap could be $2,400 — compared with the current cap of $18,000, or $24,000 for people over 50.

It is unclear if the new cap would be in the tax bill expected in a few weeks.
