Lance McCullers, Jr. gave the Astros four scoreless innings of relief on three days’ rest. The right-hander got through the heart of the order, including striking out Yankee slugger Aaron Judge on three straight curveballs in the eighth and Gary Sanchez with the same nasty curves in the ninth. He picked up his first career save. M.I.A. With the Yankees seemingly having the edge in the battle of the bullpens, the Yankees desperately needed Tommy Kahnle to hold down the Astros when CC Sabathia was pulled in the fourth.
