When NBC’s was at ESPN, he once answered a question about why ESPN2 insisted on a constant scoreboard scroll below live game action with a sensible reply: “We wanna be all things to all people.” That mandate can be the only reason why ESPN suits greenlit a weekly talk show airing at 1 a.m. on Tuesdays called “Barstool Van Talk.” I thought it was a reality show about van conversions and accessories. The Barstool brand is not the ESPN brand. But when you wanna appeal to all segments of the audience this is what you convince yourself drives viewership and buzz.
