Rolling in the deep

-

HE’S GOING to need a new car to go with his new boat.

Angel Ortiz, 60, wanted to test out his brand-new water cruiser Sunday afternoon from the World’s Fair Marina in Queens.

But the white Chevy Captiva was dragged into the water, pulled by the boat as Ortiz was launching the vessel from the inclined concrete ramp.

“The boat did what it was supposed to,” said Ortiz. “The car didn’t.”

Ortiz, of Rochester, escaped the vehicle without injuries.

He watched as the FDNY and the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit fished the white car out of the water.

“The car, unfortunately, didn’t float,” he said.

The marina, built for the 1964 World’s Fair and located at the northern edge of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, is used as a launch spot for party and dinner cruises. But the edge is covered in algae and seaweed and deceptively slippery, Ortiz said.

It’s one of those days for Angel Ortiz after his Chevy Captiva got dragged into Flushing Bay when he was trying to launch a boat Sunday on a slippery marina ramp. Behind him, recovery teams were able to pull the nonaquatic vehicle out of the drink.
