Gold Star pa Khan rips Trump’s ploy

- Erin Durkin

GOLD STAR father Khizr Khan said the deaths of four American servicemen in Niger have been turned into a “political football” — and blamed President Trump’s chief of staff John Kelly for making the situation worse.

Khan, whose Army captain son was killed in Iraq, spoke last year at the Democratic National Convention and then came under attack by Trump. Appearing Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Khan said the families of the slain soldiers “deserve utmost dignity and respect,” but have instead “been made a political football.”

Trump spurred controversy last week when he slammed Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson, who said Trump was insensitive to the widow of a soldier killed in Niger. Kelly later criticized Wilson as well.

Khan said Kelly “should have refrained from doing exactly the same thing … he was complaining about” by politicizing the issue.
