None of that, of course, matters now. McCown went 3-for-6 for minus-3 yards and a game-crushing interception in the final quarter.

Bowles and offensive coordinator John Morton opted to go for the win in regulation rather than sit on it and take their chances in overtime when the Jets started a drive at their own 15-yard line with 47 seconds left and three timeouts. The Jets figured they needed to get to the Miami 37-yard line to get in kicker Chandler Catanzaro’s range.

In other words, the Jets needed to gain 48 yards in 46 seconds or less with three timeouts. It was possible. las, that aggressive mindset blew up in their faces when McCown’s pass for Kearse on first down was easily picked off by cornerback Bobby McCain. McCown (17 for 27, 209 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) knew that he was doomed as he turned his body after quickly scanning the front side and let it fly to his left.

“I tried to stop as I was throwing because I saw him late,” McCown said. “So, I didn’t get enough on the ball. I don’t even want to think about it, man. It makes you sick.”

Cody Parkey’s 39-yard field goal with 22 seconds left completed the Jets’ debacle.

“It definitely sucks,” Kearse said. “Losing sucks.”

Losing this way sucks much more.

A“I’m very passionate,” Anderson said. “I love this game with everything in me. I give it my all day in and day out to football. It’s all I really care about more than anything else in the world. It just hurts losing. I just want to help in any way possible.”

The Jets lost a fumble on a lateral on the next play to end the game.
