U.S. att’y office in Manafort probe
ADD THE U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan to the list of agencies investigating Paul Manafort.
President Trump’s former campaign manager is under investigation for possible money laundering, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
That’s on top of existing federal and state probes into Manafort’s murky business dealings.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Monteleoni is involved in the latest investigation, The Journal said, citing three sources with knowledge of the probe.
Monteleoni was formerly a part of the money-laundering and assetforfeiture unit, but now works for the public corruption team, the newspaper said.
Special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, is reportedly working with the U.S. attorney’s office.
Manafort is under the microscope because of his dealings with Russian officials and work for entities that are tied to the Kremlin.
Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, was interviewed by the House Intelligence panel Tuesday as part of its Russia probe.
Mueller is also collaborating with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to probe Manafort’s finances.
