My memory great & raid not my fault
‘PRESS MAKES ME UNCIVIL’
PRESIDENT TRUMP boasted about his memory and defended his controversial call to the widow of a slain Army sergeant on Wednesday — countering claims that he forgot the soldier’s name during the conversation.
“I can only say this. I was really nice to her. I respect her. I respect her family,” Trump said.
The President has faced mounting criticism for his call with Myeshia Johnson, the pregnant widow of Sgt. La David Johnson.
The 25-year-old father of two (photo) was killed alongside three other Green Berets during an ISIS ambush in Niger on Oct. 4.
Johnson’s death has been the center of a White House controversy sparked when Trump boasted that he has called the families of “virtually” all the soldiers killed in his presidency.
Myeshia Johnson, 24, recalled Trump telling her something about her husband that he’s denied saying since he phoned her last week — “he knew what he signed up for, but it hurts anyway.”
“And it made me cry ’cause I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said he couldn’t remember my husband’s name,” Johnson told “Good Morning America” on Monday.
Trump contradicted the grieving widow Wednesday.
“I certainly respect La David, who by the way I called La David right from the beginning, just so you understand,” he said.
Trump, while bragging about his unmatched memory, said he had a chart in front of him at the time.
“They put a chart in front, La David. It says ‘La David Johnson.’ So right from the beginning there’s no hesitation,” he said.
“One of the great memories of all time,” he added, pointing a finger at his temple.
Trump bristled when asked if he personally authorized the mission that left Johnson and the others dead.
“No, I didn’t. Not specifically. I have generals, that are great generals. These are great fighters, warriors. I gave them authority to do what’s right so that we win,” he said.
Military brass have yet to fully explain what precipitated the ambush, or why it took two days to recover Johnson’s body.
