’96 MURDER

Siblings charged in 21-year-old killing

LESS THAN A year after his brotherin-law was stabbed to death, Evan Wald was seen tearing down posters begging for clues in the killing — which he’s now charged with, prosecutors said Friday.

Wald, 43, and his sister, Roslyn Pilmar, 60, are accused of murdering Howard Pilmar 21 years ago.

Pilmar, 40, was knifed more than 25 times inside his Midtown office on March 21, 1996.

The brother and sister were suspected of the crime for years, but were charged in August after prosecutors said new evidence surfaced.

The Manhattan District Attorney has not disclosed what evidence is fresh but revealed a taste of what the office says is a strong circumstantial case in an effort to keep Wald locked up pending trial.

In May 1997, Wald (pictured) and another sister were caught on video “ripping down posters seeking information” about Pilmar’s murder, prosecutors said at a bail hearing for Wald on Friday.

“There it is — pulling down posters and putting them in the trash,” Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lederer said. “There are so many details ... like that, that make this a very compelling case against the defendant.”

Lederer also said Wald’s blood was “found essentially in the crime scene” and that he had “a cut on his hand the next day.”

“As recently as the night before the murder (Wald) says if (Howard) ever does anything to Roslyn, I'll kill him,” she added.

In arguing for bail, Wald’s lawyer Daniel Gotlin re-iterated that two decades went by without charges, while his client worked in restaurants in Las Vegas and Washington and started a family.

Justice Jill Konvsier said she was not willing to set bail for Wald based on what she knew of the allegations so far.
