Principal out after fatal stab
A BRONX principal has been removed from a troubled high school where a bullied teen fatally slashed a 15-year-old classmate, officials said Saturday.
Principal Astrid Jacobo was yanked from the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation a month after the grisly stabbing.
“After a careful review, I have decided to select a new principal to lead the school and ensure an inclusive learning environment for all students,” city schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña said.
“I’ve visited Wildlife several times, meeting with staff and families, and will continue to closely monitor and support the community.”
Jacobo has been reassigned, and a search is underway for a new principal, officials said.
Abel Cedeno, 18, was indicted on manslaughter charges in the gruesome stabbing of 15-year-old Matthew McCree on Sept. 27.
Cedeno also stabbed a second classmate in front of a terrified history class filled with students and a pair of teachers. The victim survived the attack.
The bisexual Cedeno has claimed that he “snapped” after enduring months of anti-gay slurs and other abuse from classmates.
McCree’s family insists that the victim was no bully.
The incident marked the city’s first school killing since 1993.
