Guard killed dealer: cops
A POT dealer’s bodyguard accidentally shot him dead while trying to defend him from armed robbers in Washington Heights, police sources said Monday.
Jose Nunez, 43, and a buddy met with two customers in a parking garage on Wadsworth Ave. at W. 178th St. Sunday night, the sources said. They said that around 10:50 p.m., Nunez’s pal, Alex Siraj, 31, handed over the pot, and the would-be buyers pulled out guns, threw the pair to the ground and pistolwhipped them.
The robbers took their victims’ cell phones and Nunez’s gun, the sources said, but Nunez had backup — a third man who emerged from a car. That man opened fire and took cover as Siraj ran to the safety of a doorway, with Nunez following.
The startled third man (photo) didn’t realize who was running where and fired a shot, hitting Nunez in the head, police said.
Medics took Nunez to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia, where he died hours later. Siraj was listed in stable condition at the same hospital, sources said.
