$105G art theft at Qns. museum
A SNEAK swiped two photographs worth $105,000 from the MOMA PS1 museum in Queens over the weekend, sources said.
The thefts of the gelatin silver prints depicting surreal scenes with naked women were discovered on Monday about 11 a.m. by a facilities manager and reported to police.
The theft at the Long Island City museum, at 22-25 Jackson Ave., likely happened on Sunday, according to sources. There were no signs of forced entry, and the alarm system was not triggered. A spokeswoman for the museum declined comment.
Housed in a century-old schoolhouse, the contemporary art museum was founded in 1971 by a group devoted to organizing exhibitions in underused and abandoned spaces in the city, according to the musuem’s website.
It became an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan in 2000.
