Don taps GOPer to be Fed chief

PRESIDENTTRUMP has named a new head of the Fed.

Trump named Federal Reserve b board member Jerome Powell T Thursday as his pick to become th the next chairman of the U.S. centr tral bank.

If confirmed by the Senate, Powell would replace current chair Janet Yellen, whose term exp pires in February.

Trump announced Powell’s n nomination Thursday at a White House ceremony in the Rose Garden, calling him “strong,” “committed” and “smart.”

Powell has the “wisdom and le leadership” to guide the U.S. e economy through any challenges it may face, he said.

Powell, 64, a Fed board member since 2012, is seen as a safe choice who will continue Yellen’s cautious approach to interest rate h hikes.

Trump praised Yellen, the first w woman to hold the job, as “absolu lutely a spectacular person.”
