MTA rail hub hit by tech glitch
SCREENS AT the MTA’s Rail Control Center went dark Friday morning due to a “technical blip” affecting most of the subway’s numbered lines.
The system that lets workers know the locations of the trains on the 1 through 6 lines went out around 10 a.m., a source told the Daily News.
Train operators were told to coast into the stations and call into the control center when trains reached a red signal.
The MTA sent out an alert on its @NYCTSubway Twitter feed saying there was a “slight technical blip” but that “trains kept moving and they continued to safely operate to their destinations thanks to our great staff!” It had earlier reported that a malfunctioning signal caused a slowdown.
MTA spokesman Jon Weinstein said the train-tracking system was “rebooted promptly.”
