An army lines route
A MASSIVE, multiagency security plan is in place to protect the 51,000 runners expected at Sunday’s annual New York City Marathon. “There will be two or three times as many (security) people deployed,” Gov. Cuomo said Saturday. “You’ll have thousands of officers on duty this weekend.” The governor said there were no signs of impending threats, and the enhanced security was simply a precaution. The race steps off just five days after a lower Manhattan terror attack in which a man in a rented truck ran down bicyclists and pedestrians. The NYPD, using a tactic employed to protect the Macy’s Thanskgiving Day Parade and the New Year’s celebration in Times Square, will park 16-ton sanitation trucks loaded with sand in various locations to keep cars from entering the race route. Bomb-sniffing dogs and rooftop snipers are also part of the plan.
