Java jolt lifesavers at bus terminal

- Graham Rayman

A STARBUCKS regular at the Port Authority Bus Terminal can thank some cops for keeping him around to enjoy another latte.

A man identified by sources as Pete Folyk, 55, of Manhattan, had a heart attack in a Starbucks in the south wing of the terminal at about 10 a.m. Monday.

Port Authority Police Officers Jessica Toritto and Rebekah Epley swept in and performed CPR, using a defibrillator to revive him. When they found him, Folyk was slumped in a chair, unconscious and unresponsive. Toritto checked for vitals and found no pulse. Epley grabbed a defibrillator from a wall, while Toritto began chest compressions.

Officer Sean Gallagher cut Folyk’s shirt away, and Epley shocked him with the defibrillator. Folyk regained consciousness and began breathing. Medics took him to St. Luke’s Hospital. Also involved in the rescue were PA Officers Bryan Mathews, John Anthony and Andrew Biolsi.
