Defense pick: Crazy to allow AR-15 sales
PRESIDENT Trump’s nominee for a top health position at the Defense Department said Tuesday — two days after a gunman killed 26 people at a Texas church — that it was “insane” that civilians in the U.S. can buy semiautomatic weapons.
Dean Winslow, a physician and retired Air Force colonel, was being grilled by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and other members of the Senate Armed Services Committee during his confirmation hearing to become assistant defense secretary for health affairs.
“Just say how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a semiautomatic like an AR-15,” Winslow said.
