Alt juror: Wouldn’t convict Minaj bro
THE VERDICT from an alternate juror in the child rape trial of rapper Nicki Minaj’s brother: Not guilty.
John Labau was sent home Wednesday as the Nassau County jury began its deliberations, but said he thought there was enough reasonable doubt to acquit Jelani Maraj of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
“Do I think maybe something happened?” he asked. “Probably. But not enough to convict him by what we’re told to convict on.”
The panel of eight men and four women spent much of the day listening to read-backs of trial testimony.
Jury deliberations were expected to resume Thursday.
Maraj, 38, faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison if convicted on the top count against him.
Both the girl and her younger brother, in graphic testimony, recounted the 2015 sexual attacks that prosecutors charge began in the months before Maraj married their mother.
