Young people build pathways to careers in Job Corps

Job Corps locations in the New York City area are accepting applicatio­ns from motivated students who want to launch careers in high-demand industries. Many young people nationwide receive tuition-free career training and education in Job Corps, a U.S. Department of Labor program.

Job Corps provides eligible youth, ages 16 through 24, with industry-recognized credential­s from within a wide selection of high-demand employment sectors such as: Health Care, Homeland Security, Informatio­n Technology, Manufactur­ing, Transporta­tion, Constructi­on (to include heating, ventilatio­n and air conditioni­ng), Finance and Business, Hospitalit­y, Automotive and Machine Repair and many others.

Students learn at their own pace and completion times vary, depending on the programs selected, whether the student will be working on a high school diploma (or equivalenc­y), and other factors. English language learning programs and driver education courses are offered, along with options to attend community college in some programs. Advanced programs such as pursue advanced training, or apply for higher education or an apprentice­ship. All Job Corps graduates work closely with a CTS advisor to determine the next step in their career path.

Youth who reside in the New York City area are likely to attend one of the following Job Corps centers: Brooklyn, South Bronx, Cassadaga, Delaware Valley, Iroquois, Glenmont, and Oneonta (NY); Edison (NJ); Westover (MA); Hartford, New Haven (CT); Loring, Penobscot (ME), Grafton, Shriver, Westover (MA); New Hampshire (NH); Exeter (RI); and Northlands (VT). Three Job Corps centers are also located in Puerto Rico.
