Flaherty & Cone throw

A pair of YES Network analysts are interested in moving from the booth to the bench.

Ex-Bombers David Cone and John Flaherty are both open to replacing Joe Girardi as manager of the Yankees and have talked to GM Brian Cashman about the job.

“I wouldn’t turn down an interview if one came my way, that’s for sure,” Cone said Wednesday at Joe Torre’s Safe At Home gala event.

“I just wanted Cash to know I’m at a point in my life where I would be interested in it,” Flaherty said. “My agent and him have had a conversati­on, but it hasn’t gone any further than that. I really don’t expect it to, to be honest with you.

Said Flaherty of Girardi’s dismissal: “I was shocked. I didn’t see that one coming.”

Neither Flaherty nor Cone had heard back from Cashman, with both being understand­ing if the GM went in another direction.

Cone is interestin­g because he has embraced sabermetri­cs, often bringing them up during the broadcasts. He first started becoming interested in them during his arbitratio­n hearings as a pitcher.

“I think I understand how to strike a balance between old school and new school,” Cone said. “You can’t be leveraged one way or the other too much, otherwise you lose the clubhouse.”

Flaherty, an ex-catcher, is interestin­g because he could work with Gary Sanchez. He also said
