Prez Blaz pure ‘fantasy’

- BY ERIN DURKIN

YOU’D HAVE to be living in “fantasyland” to think Democrats will try to make Mayor de Blasio their candidate for President in 2020, the mayor said Thursday.

De Blasio, appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” two days after his reelection, was pressed on whether he’d consider running for President in 2020 if the party came to him and asked. Hizzoner said the host was in a “rich fantasyland” to dream up such a scenario.

“I’ll tell you this much — I’m ready to serve for the next four years as the mayor of New York City,” de Blasio added. “But in the meantime, I want to help this party in every way I can to get back to reaching working people and come up with a clear progressive economic message.”

De Blasio also offered backhanded props for the “creativity” of the less-than-enthusiastic tabloid covers that greeted him the morning after his victory, in which he beat Republican Nicole Malliotakis by a 38-point margin.

The Daily News front page headline: “Him Again.”

“I was not surprised,” de Blasio said. “I was impressed by their creativity, though. You win a landslide victory, I think, what are they going to do to this? But they found a way. You’ve got to give them credit for that.”
