After Va. losses, GOPer won’t run
REP. BOB Goodlatte, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, will not seek reelection next year.
The Virginia Republican’s announcement came days after Democrats swept several races in his home state, including the governor’s office and several local legislative seats.
One Democrat whose name was almost immediately floated as a replacement was gun control advocate Andy Parker, whose daughter Alison was killed by a gunman during a live news report two years ago.
“I am glad that next year there will be one less traitor we have to deal with,” Parker said of Goodlatte’s stepping down. “I will not rule anything out, but there’s a lot of consideration before I make a decision like that,” he told the Daily News.
Chris Hurst, Alison Parker’s boyfriend, beat out an incumbent Republican to win a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
