Bill and Dems have no mandate

-

Brooklyn: Hillary Clinton tweeted “Yes!” to Democratic wins in gubernatorial races in blue states Virginia and New Jersey. Apparently, she tweeted in the early morning hours when coughing, wine and fainting spells hadn’t yet kicked in. In New York City, where Democrats outnumber Republicans 7 to 1, Mayor de Blasio won reelection 2 to 1 with another meager 24% turnout as in 201a3. Hardly a win, let alone a mandate.

In New Jersey, where people are suffering from Christie fatigue, they elected a Democrat who will increase taxes on income, property and sales. Be careful of what one prays (or in this case) votes for.

In Virginia, as in New Jersey, a Democrat won a Democrat state, meaning no pickups from the presidential election outcome. Voters over the age of 45 overwhelmingly voted for the Republican, Ed Gillespie, thus no Democrat pickup from the 2016 election. Millennials will one day be 45.

Democrats should worry that because of the radical left-wing media and polling institutions, in conjunction with the anti-free speech antifa, and the fact that in 2018 more Senate Democrats are up for reelection in Trump-won states, things aren’t looking so good, especially as more red states turn redder. Cheers, Hillary! Lydia DiBello Brooklyn: It boggles my mind that a complete idiot gets reelected in the so-called greatest city in the world. I understand people wanted change the first time around, but the people of this great city voted de Blasio again.

Did they not learn from the first term, hello? It just goes to show New York City is in deep trouble and way behind the pack of cities because of quality of life issues. We are in deep trouble the next four years! Very sad, and people wonder why the middle class is leaving in droves. Kevin Donahue

A corrupt system

Manhattan: It is now crystal clear. The fact that Dollar Bill Wilhelm de Blasio is still mayor of New York City speaks volumes. Why do people like Sheldon Silver, Dean Skelos, Charles Rangel, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Dollar Bill Wilhelm de Blasio continue to evade justice? The fault lies with voters and the system that continues to enable these known miscreants. The bias, bribery, dishonesty and corruption is rampant throughout all levels of government in our country. Where are the honest people who will do the job if given the chance? Frank Giffone

Consistency, Tish

West Harrison, N.Y: Now that Mayor de Blasio has been reelected, will newly reelected Public Advocate Letitia James bring another homeless child to stand next to her during the swearing-in ceremony as she berated and criticized former mayor Mike Bloomberg for the homeless situation in New York City? Will she do the same thing to de Blasio considering the homeless situation has gotten worse under his administration? Peter Creanza

Cleanup time

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.: To all politicians, winners and losers: Election Day was Tuesday. Please get your ugly campaign signs off our lawns! Bob English

Better late than never

Mohegan Lake, N.Y.: Hey, I heard Trump will be visiting Vietnam. I guess his “bone spurs” didn’t keep him out this time. Quelle surprise!

Storm warning

Staten Island: Last month, President Trump talked about “the calm before the storm.” Maybe he was talking about the results of Tuesday’s election. Not wanting to take any blame (as usual) for Republican Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie’s loss to Democrat Ralph Northam, he said Gillespie “did not embrace me or what I stand for.” The trouble was, Gillespie did embrace them. It’s a long way to the 2018 midterm elections and I am not holding my breath, but as each day goes by, and as more lies and I-don’t-recalls are exposed by those in Trump’s orbit, “the calm before the storm” is still very much active. Michele Corelli

Media spin

Franklin Lakes, N.J.: Once again we see the leftist anti-Trump media putting the most negative spin possible on the gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey. (Note: neither GOP candidate aligned him- or herself with the Trump America First agenda.) Both of these states are strong Democrat strongholds. A Republican victory in either one would have been considered a big positive for the GOP. The losses are merely confirmations of the leftist majorities in these two Eastern states. It’s not a condemnation of Trump’s America First agenda — which is driving an unprecedented economic boom — a $5.4 trillion increase in national wealth! And more is on the way. Don’t be fooled by Dem-leftist propaganda.

William A. Pauwels Sr.

Still crazy after all these years

South Ozone Park: Another Election Day has come and gone and the facts are the facts. Fiscally speaking, the best-run cities are Republican and the worst-run cities are Democratic. According to Albert Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, but in New York City we have insanely reelected the ever corrupt “Big Bird” de Blasio and are expecting different results. So tell me, who’s crazy?

Kenneth Kucinskas

Standing up for women

Brooklyn: To Voicer Anita Mulé: When Michelle Obama stated that any woman voting for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton was voting against her voice, it wasn’t just about Hillary being female, but rather about what Trump stands for. It’s not because he’s a man and she’s a woman. Clinton supporters used that same line when she was running against Obama. It didn’t work then and it’s not going to work now. Dan Freeman

Unfair tax reporting

Little Egg Harbor, N.J.: The Daily News Editorial Board never ceases to amaze (“Death by a thousand cuts,” Nov. 9). While it’s blatantly obvious that the staff hates Trump, hates Republicans and any tax plan they come up with, it is silly to use The New York Times research to condemn the new tax plan. The Times is so far past bias, it’s fiction. The comical part is the identical tax plan would be praised if brought to the floor by Democrats, and I doubt any member of the Editorial Board has even read and/or comprehended the proposed legislation. Why bother since any proposal by Republicans is racist and evil? William Cook

Taxing time

Hicksville, L.I.: I have to compliment Voicer Larry Feigenbaum for a brilliant letter illustrating the GOP tax plan’s bait and switch. How can the party of “family values” do such harm to all families? I would like to add some of my own thoughts. It continues an injustice perpetrated on senior citizens since Reagan started taxing Social Security benefits. At the time, this was only supposed to apply to upper-income seniors, who were defined as single taxpayers above $25,000 and married taxpayers above $32,000. That amount was not indexed to account for increases in the cost of living, as were the value for exemptions and the tax brackets themselves. Today it remains the same as it was in the 1980s. Do not let them rush this abomination through before Thanksgiving as they want. Make them hold hearings and listen to expert testimony on this bill which will impact the entire economy.

Joe Squerciati

Political country

Atlantic Beach, L.I.: How dare they (“Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood mock President Trump at CMAs,” Nov. 8)! They are paid entertainers. This was not their private concert where you take a show that people watch to forget the horrors of the day just to listen to a waitress from nowhere. But for the good fortune of another television show, they would still be where you were. Carrie would never, ever have said anything like that when trying to win “American Idol.” She should stay in Canada; you just lost a lot of fans. Shame on her for trying to further divide our country! And Brad is just a fly-by-night disgrace. Doreen Isola

Time to move on

Hailey, Idaho: Why does everything have to be political? I had to turn off the CMA awards — a show that I have watched for years. Donald Trump is President — fact. Hillary Clinton lost — fact. Get over it, move on. If you don’t like Trump, vote him out in four years. All this hate is not good for America. Debbie O’Neill
