Fifth Ave. all a-Buzz on Vets Day

- Ellen Moynihan and Denis Slattery

ASTRONAUT BUZZ Aldrin made his way up Fifth Ave. on Saturday as the grand marshal of the city’s annual Veterans Day parade.

Mayor de Blasio and the Air Force’s highest-ranking woman, Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski, accompanied Aldrin as he waved to an estimated crowd of 40,000 spectators.

Onlookers braved record cold temperatures to honor the country’s vets at the event — the largest of its kind in the country.

“It’s beautiful, so many people,” Aldrin said of the crowds lining the route.

The 87-year-old Air Force veteran served in the Korean War and was the second man on the moon.

Gov. Cuomo, who also marched, announced that he has signed legislation allowing medicinal marijuana to be used to treat posttraumatic stress disorder. “Many of our veterans are suffering from PTSD, and the medical community has determined that marijuana can be a helpful treatment in some areas,” Cuomo said.
