Parole judge fesses up to lawyer punch

- Shayna Jacobs

A HOTHEADED former state parole judge admitted to clocking a Legal Aid lawyer after a party last year and agreed to anger management treatment in a plea deal. Robert Beltrani, 54, copped to third-degree assault in Manhattan Criminal Court in a plea proceeding Monday. He agreed to take an anger management course and 10 days community service for the Oct. 20, 2016, booze-fueled spat on W. 18th St. in Chelsea.

If he complies with the terms, the conviction will get reduced to a harassment violation at a later date.

Beltrani and public defender Sam Roberts were at the same party — attended by Legal Aid attorneys and others in the justice system — at an event space.

The sucker punch came as Beltrani and Roberts, then 48, were talking on the sidewalk outside after the party. Roberts said it was unprovoked.

The two had met for the first time at the party.

Sources told the Daily News an aggressive Beltrani mouthed off to Roberts before cold-cocking him in a shocking attack caught on security video.

The punch knocked Roberts unconscious and sent him to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries, including a black eye and separated shoulder.

Beltrani was fired by the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision on Oct. 31. He was based on Rikers Island, where he heard parole violation cases since April 2011. His salary was $98,669.
