OLDMAN & WIFE NO. 5

-

MARRIAGE NO. 5 is not the end for “Darkest Hour” star Gary Oldman, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. The 59-year-old actor, who plays Winston Churchill in his new film, started the month by marrying art curator Gisele Schmidt (inset together). He says the fifth time is the charm.

“You know, sometimes you have to go through the others,” the British actor said at the Paris Theater on W. 58th St. Oldman cites Schmidt’s first marriage as evidence that she’s going to be a good wife. “Her ex, they were together 20 years and they have a 9-year-old son, he’s a great guy,” Oldman said. “He was at our wedding. We’re all very friendly. He even said, ‘We should have been friends, I wasn’t Mr. Right.’” But they’re great buddies.”

Oldman, who has three kids of his own, proved not to be Mr. Right four times already. He was married to actresses Lesley Manville from 1987 to 1989 and Uma Thurman from 1990 to 1992. He wed photographer Donya Forentino in 1997 before their divorce in 2001. And in 2008, he tied the knot with songwriter Alexandra Edenborough, and called it quits in 2015.

“I’ve gone through my thing and we’re like peas in a pod,” he says of his connection to his latest spouse. “I’m nearly 60 and at last I think I’ve come home.”

Oldman also wouldn’t mind taking another shot at an Oscar with his new film, which opens this weekend. It also stars Lily James and Ben Mendelsohn.

“There’s certainly a big line of people who want it for me, that’s for sure,” according to Oldman. His only Academy Award nomination was for 2012’s “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” “Of course it would be nice — and nice to win — but the last one, I enjoyed the ride and I’d never been on that train before.”
