Alabama’s despicable nominee

-

Long Branch, N.J.: To the people of Alabama, let me get this straight: If you had a choice, you would choose an alleged pedophile over a Democrat? Also, to the women of Alabama, where are you? Why aren’t you in the streets protesting with pitchforks? Are you telling me if a grown adult man comes to your house and asks to take your 14-year-old daughter out on a date, it’s OK? Oh, I forgot, you are Trump supporters. Well, in case you haven’t heard, you can now be seen and heard. Also, you no longer have to stay in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. Get off your knees and do a better job of protecting your children. Lenzy Kelley Yonkers: I don’t know if Judge Moore is guilty or innocent, but apparently if you accuse someone of illegal actions, they must be guilty. Under these rules, Hillary Clinton must be guilty of everything she is accused of. Where is Mike Lupica’s column calling for her arrest or to pay back any money she and Bill collected illegally? If Moore is proven guilty, throw his rear end in jail, just like if Clinton is found guilty.

Out of our misery

Scotch Plains, N.J.: Re “Sick Sicko” (Nov. 16): Here is a prime example of the liberal American justice system. You have in Charles Manson a man who snuffed out and ruined the lives of many innocent people but is able to live almost 50-plus years at a high expense off of the American taxpayer when a 21-cent solution (the cost today of one bullet, probably cheaper 50 years ago) would have ended the life of this maniac and saved the public millions of dollars in medical, labor and housing costs. A prayer out to the families that he has affected, hoping his next breath is his last and brings closure to this horrible chapter of American history. Thomas Catuogno

Salary emergency

Brooklyn: Re “Treat us equally!” (Nov. 12): If the FDNY EMS position had qualification requirements other than a four-year high school diploma or GED and state Department of Health EMT basic certificate, the EMS unions fighting for increased pay for FDNY emergency medical technicians would probably get better results. Absolutely no experience required, no driving experience required, driver’s license does not need to be obtained until time of appointment, and U.S. citizenship is not required. FDNY EMS candidates are not required to disclose any arrests and/or convictions that are sealed and/or dismissed, and all list numbers are reached before EMS exams expire. The article notes EMTs make $60,000 a year after five years. More qualification requirements may help in getting FDNY EMTs more money. Danielle Schultz

A Giant failure

Manhattan: Steve Spagnolo had a couple of good seasons as Giants defensive coordinator and has been bad to terrible since with the Saints, Rams and now with the Giants again. Defense wins games, and that’s why New York has lost so often and so badly. Fire Steve, not Ben, not Jerry.

Don’t encourage them

Paradise Valley, Pa.: “Louis C.K. is a pervert, not a predator, and the difference matters” (Op-Ed, Nov. 10) really punched a few buttons. I was raped in Flatbush at knifepoint after a guy broke into my apartment at 3 a.m. in the middle of a snowstorm. The cops wanted to know what I did to encourage him. Then they realized I was the editor of the college paper and backed off. This Op-Ed is disgusting and excuses perversion that is predatory, whether or not the door was locked. Even the perpetrator agreed that he was a predator. Why did you print this trash? Is the Daily News OK with the disgusting rape culture we women have had to endure since we were born? Really? It’s OK for a guy to pull out his junk and aim it at people? The News is complicit for enhancing our rape culture.

Good riddance

St. Petersburg, Fla.: I couldn’t agree more with Voicer John Grimmick. Not having to look at that perpetually angry-looking face of Melissa Mark-Vevirito every day and listen to her socialist rantings are the only thing we can look forward to after this farce of a mayoral election. To call Bill de Blasio’s election “win” a mandate shows just how much of a dream world this guy lives in.

Listen to the cops

Riverhead, L.I.: Almost daily there is a news report regarding the police using excessive force on an individual. How about when an officer tells you to stop, you stop, so that officer can assess whatever the situation is? How about when an officer asks you for ID, you present it to him or her without a defensive attitude? They’re doing their job. You haven’t done anything wrong, you say — then you have nothing to worry about. Try staying calm and present yourself as a reasonable person and perhaps this problem will begin to get better. There certainly are some bad cops, but there is enough fault for both sides to improve. I certainly hope so. We need to live together; why not do it peacefully?

MaryAnne DeJohn North Arlington, N.J.: Just when you think the progressives couldn’t get any less patriotic, GQ magazine names Colin Kaepernick their man of the year. What’s next? A ticker tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes for Bowe Bergdahl? Armand Rose Great Neck, L.I.: Friday, Nov. 17, is National Baklava Day. Top off your lunch or dinner with something sweet for dessert. Order a piece of baklava at the end of the meal at your favorite Greek restaurant. Baklava consists of 30 or more sheets of phyllo dough brushed with lots of butter, and layered with finely chopped pistachios, walnuts, and/or almonds. Who better than the Greeks to make this tasty treat? Our favorite Greek restaurant for Baklava is Fontana Famous Pizza & Gyro in Bayside, Queens. A slice of their baklava will put a smile on your face. Just don’t get up and start dancing to block the aisle! Opa! Larry & Wendy Penner

Government takes

Ridgewood, N.J.: Interesting that New York and New Jersey politicians are screaming about the loss of the state and local tax deduction. Whose pocket is getting picked by whom? Is the fault at the local, state or federal level? As politicians lay on more and more taxes, they lay the blame with Washington. My federal taxes are minuscule compared to local and state taxes. Not all our politicians lining their pockets with our money are federal.

Peter J. Peirano, USMC retired

Foot the bill

Morristown, N.J.: Re “A tax attack on New York” (editorial, Nov. 13): Like Barack Obama always said: “Pay your fair share.” Why has that motto changed now? Let’s all follow Obama’s lead and be consistent.

Colin Soutar

Shrinks wrapped

Torrance, Calif.: Re “Mental health help for all who serve” (Op-Ed, Nov. 11): Any additional mental health care is not going to get used, as the first thing that happens to any person who uses military mental health services is they lose their security clearances, then their job. The secretary of the Air Force even had to make a statement about this because it is a well-known “secret.”

Do not enter

Astoria: I wonder how lucky Voicer Evelyn Zorovich would feel today had the five-year ban on immigration she proposes occurred when her ancestors decided to come to America.

Anthony Garcia

Much-missed museum

Manhattan: I used to take my family to the 5Pointz building in Long Island City on a regular basis, as if it was a museum. The art was staggeringly creative and beautiful. I did not bother reading your editorial (“Painted into a corner,” Nov. 12). I don’t need more crap in my psyche. That you would choose to make this a big-deal issue in the era of Trump makes me want to vomit.

Let the children read

Jackson Heights: On Veterans Day, I came to the Jackson Heights library to find it closed for the holiday. The good part is that someone had left piles of free books outside. A small group gathered and selected books. Some mothers were happy to see children’s books and the kids were excited taking them. This is great as I always see young children on electronic devices on the subway. It has been scientifically proven that these small computers hinder the proper development of young children’s brains. Parents, give your kids some books and let their brains develop in the right way.
