Madonna, nude for the very first time
THE ONLINE auction house fighting a lawsuit over Madonna’s personal items plans to take bids on naked photos of the singer when she was just 18.
Gotta Have Rock and Roll announced bids will open Wednesday for “original, never-before-seen nude” photographs of Madonna taken in 1977 when she was a student at the Art Worlds Institute of Creative Arts in Ann Arbor, Mich. In some of the dozens of photos, Madonna is practicing dance moves. “This photograph was shot in a series that is the earliest known nude photographs of Madonna. Very good condition, stamped on the verso by the photographer,” the listing for the photos reads. Bids start at $500. Madonna sued Gotta Have Rock and Roll in July over roughly two dozen other personal items up for bid, including underwear she wore and a 1995 letter to her from rap great Tupac Shakur, whom she briefly dated. She said she hadn’t realized they were no longer in her possession until they appeared online.
The auction house countered that many of the items had been given to Madonna’s former friend and art adviser, Darlene Lutz.
The auction on Madonna’s underwear and other items has been frozen while the dispute is resolved.
Lutz’s attorney, Judd Grossman, said the latest photos up for bid are apparently unrelated to the ongoing case in Manhattan court.
The nudes and negatives come with “a copy of Madonna’s signed release,” the listing notes. Calls to attorneys for Madonna and the auction house were not returned.
