Blaz: Bubba mess would be doom now

SHOULD President Bill Clinton have resigned over the Monica Lewinsky scandal? For Mayor de Blasio, it depends upon what the meaning of the word “should” is.

Hizzoner stopped short of agreeing with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s assessment that he should have resigned over the affair with his intern in 1998 — but said he would’ve had to resign if it happened today.

“I don’t think you can rework history,” he said, asked if he agreed with Gillibrand’s assertion he should’ve quit. “I think if it happened today, if any President did that today, he would have to resign.”

The mayor did not seem particularly bothered by the scandal back in 2014, when Clinton attended his inauguration and swore him in to be the city’s 109th mayor.

Gillibrand is among the voices who have argued, amid a renewed focus on sexual misconduct by men in power, that Clinton’s affair with the muchyounger intern would be viewed in a much different light today.

“If it had happened today, there would have been a very different reaction, there’s no question,” de Blasio said Monday during an unrelated press conference.
