Shot is fired, 2 injured at upstate mall

TWO PEOPLE were injured Sunday when a gun went off at an Orange County mall full of holiday shoppers, authoritie­s said.The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. at the American Eagle store in the Galleria at Crystal Run mall in Middletown, about 70 miles northwest of Manhattan.

Eyewitness News reported that a 49-year-old mother and her son, 12, of Goshen, were injured. According to the news station, the pair suffered minor cuts.

“A male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and gray pants discharged one round from a handgun into the floor on the second level of the mall in front of the American Eagle store,” said Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman. He said police were still seeking the man and didn’t know if the discharge was accidental.

Meanwhile, a cop shot a man at a mall in Texas late Sunday afternoon after mistaking his toy BB gun for a real weapon.

The officer opened fire after a man accused of stealing a pair of sunglasses at a Sunglass Hut inside The Parks at Arlington mall appeared to point the fake gun at him.

The extent of the suspected thief’s injuries were not immediatel­y known hours after the shooting. He was not immediatel­y identified.
