SECRET SANTA

Spends $10G to pay for wish list toys

CHRISTMAS CAME early to customers at a New Jersey toy store, where a Secret Santa decked the halls with a $10,000 layaway gift.

A man only known as Charlie K took a different approach to his Black Friday shopping, spending $10,000 to cover layaway orders at a Toys ‘R’ Us in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Charlie K (photo inset) told CBS Philly that he wanted to give the gift of zero balance.

Charlie said he made the decision that morning, and chose the Cherry Hill store because it was near impoverished neighborhoods that could use the help.

“I’m trying to bring some happiness to people, to the community that brought happiness to me and my family,” he said.

“I love this community and I am trying to provide back to it.”

Charlie was unable to fulfill all 350 layaway orders, but was able to make a sleigh-sized dent, knocking out $10,780 worth of items on layaway.

Customer Stephanie Dawson had seven items on layaway worth $200, and learned her items were paid in full.

“I want to say thank you very much and I appreciate it and thank God for you,” she said.

Jessica Key showed up to Toys ‘R’ Us ready to wipe out her balance, only to put her cash back in her pocket. “It’s definitely an early Christmas and I want to say thank you to the gentleman that came in and donated,” Key said. “It’s like the best feeling. Thank you.”

While in the store, Charlie also had everyone choose three items each for him to donate to Toys for Tots. The total equaled an additional $2,000.

“The Marines and Toys for Tots are one of the best organizations,” Charlie said. “I don’t want to forget them.”
