TRACE’S PREZ PLAN

-

TRACE ADKINS says we should elect a President who doesn’t want the job — but just not him. The country music superstar (photo), who’s performing at Wednesday’s Wall Street Rocks benefit concert, has twice appeared on Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice.” And “hell no,” he doesn’t want to run the country. “I don’t think anyone should want that gig,” he said. “To tell you the truth, anybody who comes out and says, ‘I want to be President of the United States’ — that should disqualify them from being President of the United States.” Adkins has a better idea. “I think we should all vote on who we think it the most qualified guy, tap him on the shoulder and say, ‘Sorry about your luck, Pal, it’s your turn.’ ” And if the 6-foot-6 crooner got that shoulder tap, he wouldn’t know where to start. “It’s gotten above my pay grade,” he said. “I can’t fix it.”

Adkins is on the mend from knee surgery, which he says was supposed to keep him using a cane for six weeks. But three weeks removed from the operating table, he says he’s getting along without any help. He also says going under the knife beats being shot in the chest by his ex-wife, which happened in 1994. “It’s not ‘that’ bad,” he chuckled. And Adkins just might be singing about “Legs” at Wednesday night’s fund-raiser to support U.S. troops at Terminal 5 in Hell’s Kitchen.

“I think Billy and I might do something together,” he said, referring to ZZ Top front man Billy Gibbons. Gibbons, along with Richie Sambora and Dave Navarro, are slated to perform. “I’ve known Billy a long time. He said something about me doing something with him. We’ll see.”

As for whether or not Wall Street actually “Rocks,” Adkins can’t say.

“I don’t know anything about it, to tell you the truth,” he confessed. “I don’t have any business there, I know that.”
